Trashcan Sinatras - Ever The Optimist (2026)

Image
Ever The Optimist is pleasant, polished and full of the melodic craftsmanship you expect from Trashcan Sinatras. The guitars are warm, the harmonies elegant and there are a few genuinely beautiful moments. Unfortunately, it is also far too comfortable. Most songs drift by without leaving much of an impression, the tempos rarely change and there is very little here that feels necessary after such a long absence. Nothing is really bad, but very little makes me want to come back either. A perfectly competent indie-pop album that ultimately feels more reassuring than exciting. Pros Elegant melodies and harmonies Warm, polished production Consistently pleasant songwriting Cons Far too safe Very few memorable songs Lacks energy and surprise Genre : Jangle Pop Country : UK Final Verdict: 59% (Forgettable Album) Yearly Ranking : 521th / 603 Highlight : Birds I Couldn't Identify Made me think of: The Sundays The Go-Betweens Belle and Sebastian #newalbum #newalbum2026 #albumrelease #newmus...

Sharp Pins - Radio DDR (2025)

Image
Radio DDR brings a sharper, more rhythmic edge to Sharp Pins’ indie pop formula, leaning slightly toward post-punk urgency. The guitars are tighter and more forward, and the songs move quickly, driven by efficiency rather than atmosphere. The production is lean and functional, keeping everything direct and uncluttered. While the added drive gives the album some momentum, the songs remain brief and narrowly focused. Tracks tend to introduce their core ideas and resolve them almost immediately, leaving little room for development or contrast. The pacing stays uniform, and the emotional range remains limited throughout. Radio DDR benefits from its immediacy, but that same quality keeps it from leaving a stronger impression. It’s competent and energetic without pushing beyond its established lane. Genre : Jangle Pop Country : US Final Verdict: 58% (Forgettable Album) Yearly Ranking : 769th / 859 Highlight : You Don’t Live Here Anymore Made me think of: The Feelies The Go-Betweens The ...

Sharp Pins - Balloon Balloon Balloon (2025)

Image
Balloon Balloon Balloon is a light, compact indie pop record built on bright guitar lines and short, efficient song structures. The album moves quickly, favoring immediacy over depth, with melodies that arrive easily and depart just as fast. The production is clean and understated, keeping the focus on simple hooks and familiar jangle pop textures. While the songs are consistently pleasant, they rarely distinguish themselves from one another. The pacing remains uniform, and the emotional range stays narrow throughout the record. Ideas are introduced and resolved without friction, leaving little sense of progression or accumulation. The album succeeds as a casual listen, offering a series of tidy, well-constructed pop moments. However, the lack of contrast or expansion keeps it from making a stronger impression. Genre : Jangle Pop Country : US Final Verdict: 59% (Forgettable Album) Yearly Ranking : 751th / 854 Highlight : Takes So Long Made me think of: The Feelies Real Estate The G...

The Tubs - Cotton Crown (2025)

Image
Cotton Crown is a tightly delivered indie rock record built on crisp guitar lines, straightforward rhythms, and clearly defined vocal melodies. The Tubs favor clarity over experimentation, presenting tracks that move through familiar structures with confidence. The album is cohesive and cleanly produced, offering a consistent sound throughout. The songwriting leans toward emotional directness, with lyrics touching on personal relationships, minor frustrations, and small reflections. There is charm in the delivery, and the band’s sense of pacing keeps the record moving at a comfortable tempo. However, the songs often settle into predictable progressions, and the emotional range stays within a narrow band. Instrumentally, the album balances urgency with restraint. The guitars shimmer, the bass underlines each movement cleanly, and the drums — while competent — rarely push beyond functional patterns. There are flashes where the band hints at greater intensity or depth, but these moment...

The Loft - Everything Changes Everything Stays The Same (2025)

Image
Everything Changes Everything Stays the Same unfolds as a brilliantly timeless set of guitar-driven pop, rich with nostalgic melody yet radiating a fresh vitality decades later. It feels like it could have been recorded in 1985, yet sounds improbably vibrant today—proof that great indie-pop doesn’t fade. Produced by Sean Read (of Dexys), it retains the original lineup's chemistry while polishing the sound for modern clarity. Songs like “Ten Years” carry emotional weight wrapped in Beatles-like hooks and wistful lyrics of passing time. The album is a long-awaited debut that feels both right on time and beautifully out of time. Prism Shores - Out From Underneath (2025)

Image
"Out From Underneath" showcases Prism Shores' adeptness at blending C86-inspired jangle pop with the shimmering textures of early shoegaze. Tracks like "Overplayed My Hand" and "Holding Pattern" highlight the band's high-paced shoegaze shimmer, while "Southpaw" delves into slowcore melancholy. The album's varied yet cohesive sound demonstrates the band's ability to shift perspectives, finding light amidst darkness. This release revitalizes the indie rock genre, offering a fresh take that appeals to both longtime enthusiasts and new listeners. Exclaim!
