Ennaria - Manifesto (2026)

Image
MANIFESTO is a loud and aggressively modern mix of hyperpop, digicore, hardstyle and alternative metal. Ennaria clearly has a strong identity, and the album’s best tracks combine distorted production, catchy hooks and heavier breakdowns with real confidence. The problem is that almost everything is pushed to the maximum. The production is constantly compressed, the vocals are exaggerated and the songs rarely offer enough contrast or breathing room. What initially sounds exciting soon becomes repetitive and tiring, while some lyrics and stylistic choices feel more calculated than authentic. There are a few memorable moments and plenty of energy, but the album relies too heavily on volume, attitude and digital chaos. MANIFESTO shows potential, yet it still feels immature, inconsistent and difficult to enjoy as a complete record. Pros Strong and immediately recognisable identity Energetic production with several catchy hooks Effective fusion of hyperpop and heavier sounds Cons Repetitiv...

Kim Petras - Detour (2026)

Image
I can hear what Detour is trying to do, and I respect the attempt to move away from safer pop formulas. The album is louder, stranger and more personality-driven than most of Kim Petras' previous work, which immediately makes it more interesting. There is a clear effort to embrace a messier, more underground electronic aesthetic rather than simply chasing mainstream dance-pop trends. The problem is that the album often mistakes stimulation for development. Many tracks arrive with a strong surface impression—distorted synths, aggressive beats, chaotic transitions—but don't evolve much beyond that first burst of energy. I keep waiting for bigger payoffs, stronger hooks or moments that tie the album together emotionally, and they rarely arrive. What remains is a collection of songs that are often fun in the moment but less memorable once they're over. The production carries much of the experience, while the songwriting frequently feels secondary. Even when the album experim...

Slayyyter - WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA (2026)

Image
This is all about control of image and surface. The persona is locked in — hyper-feminine, exaggerated, self-aware — and that consistency carries the album more than the songwriting itself. The best tracks hit quickly. The hooks are there, the production is sharp, and it knows exactly what kind of pop it wants to be. But there’s no real escalation. The emotional stakes stay low, and the album doesn’t build toward anything. It feels assembled rather than shaped. I enjoy individual moments. I don’t feel a reason to stay for the whole thing. Pros Clear, committed persona The hyper-glossy, trash-pop identity is fully owned. It gives the album cohesion even when songs vary. Occasional strong hooks When the choruses hit, they’re immediate and effective — sharp, sugary, memorable. Aesthetic consistency Production, visuals, and tone all align. It feels like a defined world. Cons Low emotional stakes It’s confident and stylized, but rarely feels urgent or necessary. Weak album arc Trac...

Vylet Pony - Love & Ponystep (2025)

Image
Love & Ponystep is a maximalist, post-ironic journey through early-2010s rave culture—packed with dubstep growls, hyperpop energy, video game soundbites, and absurd humor. It layers high-concept narrative across its three-chapter structure, transforming internet-era kitsch into a surprisingly heartfelt mediation on self-love after a breakup. Tracks like “Walking Beside a Dragonfly” bring genuine emotional depth, even drawing tears amid the chaos. The production is elaborately textured—each long-form track evolves with cinematic flair—yet remains fun and chaotic. The album's self-aware embrace of meme culture, Call of Duty quotes, and Skrillex-style drops never undermines its sincerity; instead, it anchors a unique pop-art story. Overall, Love & Ponystep is Vylet Pony’s most ambitious and genre-defying statement yet—silly, grand, and deeply moving.
