NTTR - No Time to Review

Guitar is Mac DeMarco’s most intimate and emotionally unfussy album yet, composed and recorded alone in just twelve days at his L.A. home studio. Without synths or overlays, its sparse instrumentation lets his voice, guitar, and candid songwriting shine—grappling with loss, sobriety, and personal rebirth. The stripped-back aesthetic delivers a sincere resonance: moments in “Nightmare,” “Knockin’,” and “Sweeter” feel like raw diary entries set to melodic confession. Critics have praised its simplicity and warmth as markers of maturity, though some view the minimalism as underpowered compared to his fuller earlier albums. Overall, Guitar stands as a heartfelt, hopeful milestone in DeMarco’s evolution. “The Clearing” represents Wolf Alice’s most polished and mature sonic evolution to date. Critics highlight its lush, 1970s-influenced pop-rock aesthetics—complete with subtle folk and dream-pop flourishes—thanks in part to Greg Kurstin’s refined production. While some reviews criticize its sheen for dulling the band’s original edge, others praise it for mature lyricism and instrumental elegance. The album balances intimacy and ambition—songs such as “Bloom Baby Bloom” and “Play It Out” channel emotional depth and confident artistry, capturing self-reflective clarity. Overall, The Clearing is a thoughtful, nuanced record that forges a new path while honoring the band's evolving strengths.
