Steeleye Span - Conflict (2025)

Conflict is Steeleye Span’s first full studio album in over five years, blending traditional folk songs with original compositions that reflect modern anxieties and our fraught relationship with the planet. The band revisits their rockier side: guitar-heavy arrangements, dynamic vocals from Maddy Prior, Julian Littman, and Andrew Sinclair, and percussion-rich textures led by Liam Genockey. Standout tracks like “Genocide” blaze with political urgency, while a capella takes like “Dogs & Ferrets” offer striking vocal purity. The album meets and, in places, exceeds the band’s own musical standards—rooted in their folk-rock legacy yet sounding remarkably vital and relevant today. Overall, Conflict shows Steeleye Span aging gracefully—honoring tradition while speaking directly to now.
