Melissa Bonny - Cherry Red Apocalypse (2026)

I like parts of this more than the album as a whole. Cherry Red Apocalypse is driven by Melissa Bonny’s voice, and that’s both its strength and its limitation. She’s compelling, versatile, and clearly comfortable front-and-center, but the material around her doesn’t always rise to the same level. The songs often aim for impact through polish and chorus lift rather than tension or progression, which leaves the album feeling solid and professional, but rarely essential. I enjoy it while it’s on, yet I don’t feel much pull to revisit it end to end.

Pros

  1. Vocal performance carries the record – Bonny’s range, control, and attitude are consistently convincing.

  2. Clean, modern production – Everything hits hard and reads clearly; no muddiness or amateur moments.

  3. Accessible metal songwriting – Hooks are immediate, structures are tight, and nothing overstays its welcome.

Cons

  1. Safe songwriting choices – Too many tracks rely on familiar modern-metal/pop formulas.

  2. Limited emotional or structural arc – The album holds a tone but rarely escalates or transforms.

  3. Gloss over grit – The polish smooths out edges that could’ve given the songs more weight or danger.
