Snail Mail - Ricochet (2026)

This feels like someone who knows exactly how to write a song, but chooses not to push it too far. The melodies are there, the emotions are clear, and everything is controlled.

But that control becomes the limitation.

The tracks settle into a comfortable midtempo space and rarely try to break out of it. There’s lift, but not enough to feel decisive. I never get that moment where the song fully commits — where restraint turns into release.

It’s coherent and well-written.
It just doesn’t quite insist on itself.

Pros

Clear emotional articulation
The lyrics are direct and readable. Nothing feels obscured or over-stylized.

Solid melodic writing
Vocal lines are shaped with care. Hooks are subtle but functional enough to carry songs.

Cohesive sonic identity
The project maintains a consistent tone and aesthetic without fragmentation.

Cons

Limited dynamic escalation
Songs build slightly but rarely reach a strong payoff or lift.

Midtempo flattening
The pacing stays too consistent, reducing contrast across the record.

Structural familiarity
Arrangements follow expected indie patterns without meaningful deviation.
