American Football - American Football (LP4) (2026)
I feel the weight of it more this time. It’s not just nostalgic anymore — there’s something heavier underneath, something more lived-in. That alone makes it land better.
The album takes its time, and I can hear the intention behind that. Some tracks actually start to build into something more developed, and when they do, it works. But it still holds back right when it should push further. The peaks are there in structure, just not in impact.
It stays very controlled. Almost too controlled. I keep expecting a moment where it really opens up or breaks out of its own restraint, but it prefers to stay contained.
I end up respecting the consistency and the emotional direction more than the actual experience of listening. It’s solid, it’s thoughtful, but it still doesn’t fully translate into something that hits hard or stays with me long after.
Pros
Emotional gravity lands more consistently → the themes feel heavier and more necessary than beforeStrong, unmistakable identity → the band’s sound is fully formed and confidently executed
Subtle growth in scope → some tracks stretch into more developed, patient builds
Cons
Escalation still doesn’t fully pay off → builds exist but rarely convert into impactful peaks
Midtempo drift remains dominant → low propulsion continues to flatten the album’s energy profile
Peaks are too understated → emotional intensity doesn’t translate into memorable high points
