Welshly Arms - Nothing But Static (2026)

I ended up enjoying this more than I expected. Welshly Arms don't reinvent alternative rock, but they make the most of their strengths: soulful vocals, energetic performances and polished production. The blues influences give the music enough personality to keep it from feeling completely generic, and several choruses are genuinely satisfying. At the same time, the album rarely steps outside its comfort zone. The songwriting follows familiar arena-rock patterns, and after a while many tracks begin to blend together. I kept waiting for a moment that would elevate the record beyond being a solid, well-executed rock album, but it never quite arrived. Even so, the consistency and strong performances make it an enjoyable listen from start to finish. It's a dependable album that delivers exactly what it sets out to do, even if it lacks the originality to become truly memorable.

Pros

Strong, soulful vocal performances.
Polished production with consistently enjoyable energy.
Good balance of blues influences and modern alternative rock.

Cons

Formulaic songwriting limits its impact.
Few standout tracks remain memorable after repeated listens.
Doesn't take enough creative risks to distinguish itself.
