Gracie Abrams - Daughter from Hell (2026)


On Daughter from Hell, Gracie Abrams tries to give her familiar intimate pop a darker and more ambitious dimension. The production is fuller, the vocals are more confident and a few songs build towards convincing emotional climaxes.

But the album still relies too heavily on breathy delivery, muted arrangements and polished indie-folk melancholy. Across its long tracklist, too many songs blend into each other, while the dramatic lyrics are not always matched by equally powerful music.

There is clear progress and enough sincerity to keep the album engaging, but Gracie Abrams still sounds more influenced than distinctive. Daughter from Hell is polished and occasionally affecting, yet also overlong, repetitive and much safer than its title suggests.

I appreciate what this re-recording accomplishes because it finally gives these songs the sound they always deserved. The production is bigger, the performances are sharper, and the riffs hit with far more authority than they did on the original release. The youthful aggression is still there, but it's delivered with much greater precision. Where it loses me is in the writing itself. Most of the songs are built around the same formula of fast riffs, blast beats and breakdowns, and after a while they begin to blur together. The constant intensity creates excitement in the short term, but it also leaves very little room for tension, contrast or memorable climaxes. Instead of building toward defining moments, the album often feels like one long sustained assault. I also miss a stronger emotional dimension.
