Bop Alloy - Masters of the Artistry (2026)

Image
With Masters of the Artistry , Bop Alloy return with their third full-length album, bringing together rapper Substantial and producer Marcus D for another exploration of jazz-inflected hip-hop. Their musical identity has always been closely associated with the melodic, contemplative tradition of Nujabes, combining warm instrumental arrangements with thoughtful lyrics and relatively restrained rhythmic foundations. It's an approach I generally appreciate, particularly when the relationship between jazz harmonies and hip-hop production creates something more substantial than a collection of pleasant background grooves. What attracts me most is the warmth and musicality of Marcus D's production . The arrangements favour delicate melodic textures, soulful harmonies and relatively traditional boom-bap rhythms rather than the aggressive synthesizers and heavily compressed production dominating much contemporary hip-hop. Substantial's delivery provides an equally grounded presence...

Lumsk - Einsemda (2026)

Image
An atmospheric and emotionally compelling progressive folk-rock album, combining expressive female vocals, lyrical violin arrangements, rich Hammond organ and occasional powerful guitar passages. Lumsk demonstrate an impressive ability to transform Nordic folk influences into elaborate progressive compositions, although the lengthy structures and restrained pacing occasionally limit their impact. With Einsemda , Lumsk return with six compositions inspired by the poetry of Tor Jonsson, exploring loneliness, mortality and the tension between hope and despair. The combination of Nordic folk music and progressive rock is particularly appealing, with expressive violin melodies, atmospheric keyboards and occasionally heavier guitars creating a distinctive musical identity. "Daudmannhaugen" is my favourite track on the album. I particularly appreciate how effectively it introduces Lumsk's musical universe, combining melancholic folk melodies with rich progressive arrangements. ...

Lucy Bedroque - c (2026)

Image
An abrasive and excessively chaotic experimental hip-hop album, combining distorted synthesizers, frantic percussion and heavily processed vocals with occasional interesting melodic fragments. Lucy Bedroque demonstrates considerable imagination and a distinctive approach to digital production, but the relentless intensity, repetitive arrangements and lack of memorable songwriting make the album more exhausting than enjoyable. Some interesting ideas emerge from the chaos, although they rarely develop into satisfying compositions. With c , Lucy Bedroque continues exploring the boundaries between underground hip-hop, rage, digicore and experimental electronic music. Following 2025's UNMUSIQUE , the Los Angeles artist delivers fifteen compositions built around distorted synthesizers, aggressive percussion and heavily manipulated vocals. It's an ambitious and occasionally interesting approach, but one that I find difficult to appreciate beyond its production techniques. The music ha...

Quadeca - Life 1 (2026)

Image
An ambitious but frustratingly inconsistent experimental pop album, combining delicate acoustic melodies, elaborate electronic arrangements and occasional explosive alternative-rock passages. Quadeca demonstrates considerable imagination and an impressive ability to manipulate contrasting musical textures, but the overcrowded production, mannered vocals and fragmented songwriting frequently undermine the stronger melodies. An interesting record with several beautiful moments, although its constant experimentation makes it more exhausting than consistently enjoyable. With Life 1 , Quadeca returns with his fifth studio album, following 2025's Vanisher, Horizon Scraper . His transformation from an internet rapper into an experimental pop musician has been interesting, particularly because of his willingness to combine acoustic instrumentation with elaborate electronic production. This new album continues that direction, although the arrangements are often so complicated that I find my...
