Blackbraid - Blackbraid III (2025)

Blackbraid III represents a triumphant evolution for Sgah’gahsowáh's solo project. The album manages to be both epic and intimate, seamlessly blending blistering black metal with deeply personal, nature-inspired interludes. From the explosive opener “Wardrums at Dawn on the Day of My Death” to quiet, emotive moments like “The Dying Breath of a Sacred Stag”, the record balances primal fury with thoughtful reflection. Ambient passages—featuring flute and acoustic textures—provide breathers that enhance pacing and narrative flow, avoiding fatigue while maintaining momentum. Production is sharp and dynamic, giving instruments space to shine with clarity and power. Standout epics like “Tears of the Dawn” and “And He Became the Burning Stars” deliver sweeping arcs that feel mythic and cathartic. Though a few transitions feel prolonged, the album’s emotional and sonic depth make it possibly Blackbraid’s strongest offering yet—a landmark in modern, culturally-rooted American black metal.
