Cardiacs - LSD (2025)

LSD is a remarkable culmination of Cardiacs’ singular vision: chaotic, melodic, unpredictable, and deeply emotional—both as an album and as legacy. From the majestic opener “Men in Bed” through to the elegiac closer “Pet Fezant,” it weaves carnival-prog, punk urgency, and chiming humour into a tapestry that honours Tim Smith’s creative spirit. The absence of Smith’s full vocal presence is felt, but the album turns that into part of its resonance—choral leads, layered voices, and contributions from Mike Vennart and Rose-Ellen Kemp step in thoughtfully. Sonically the band embrace their trademark swerves—guitar bursts, abrupt tempo changes, horn and string flourishes—while also allowing space for reflection on loss and legacy. In short, LSD doesn’t just revisit Cardiacs' past—it refracts it through a lens of finality, renewal, and tribute, making it a powerful, strange, and fitting final chapter.
