The absence of Smith’s full vocal presence is felt, but the album turns that into part of its resonance—choral leads, layered voices, and contributions from Mike Vennart and Rose-Ellen Kemp step in thoughtfully. Sonically the band embrace their trademark swerves—guitar bursts, abrupt tempo changes, horn and string flourishes—while also allowing space for reflection on loss and legacy.
