Ellereve - Umbra (2025)
Umbra occupies a potent space where darkness and light converge: the album explores shadow, trauma and longing, but not without a sense of hope or uplift. Musically, Ellereve shifts more confidently into heavier territory — dense riffs, post-metal dynamics and blackened textures sit alongside the fragile, husky cleans of Elisa Giulia Teschner, creating strong emotional contrast. The production is clear and immersive: reverbs, ambient spaces and sharp transitions between stillness and intensity effectively mirror the album’s thematic weight. Some listeners might find the mix of styles a little sprawling — the album covers a lot of ground in relatively short track lengths — but this very ambition is also what makes it compelling. For fans of emotionally charged, genre-blurring metal/atmosphere, Umbra marks Ellereve’s strongest and most focused statement to date.
