Immolation - Descent (2026)

This sits in a controlled, oppressive space where everything is built on tension. The riffs twist rather than resolve, and the atmosphere stays consistently heavy without feeling accidental.

What works is the intent. It’s focused, deliberate, and serious — nothing feels thrown in. The sound is dense but purposeful.

But the structure doesn’t expand enough. The intensity is there from the start and doesn’t evolve into something larger. I don’t get that moment where everything peaks and justifies the pressure.

It’s solid and convincing in its lane.
It just doesn’t fully open up.

Pros

Tension-driven riffing
The guitar work isn’t just heavy — it constantly creates unease and forward pressure.

Cohesive oppressive atmosphere
Everything serves the same dark, suffocating tone. It feels unified and intentional.

Strong vocal authority
The delivery grounds the chaos and adds weight to the compositions.

Cons

Limited escalation payoff
Tracks maintain intensity but rarely evolve into a higher structural peak.

Density fatigue
The constant pressure reduces contrast, making sections blur together.

Low motif retention
Riffs are effective in the moment but don’t always stick after listening.
