Laibach - MUSICK (2026)

I understand the concept, and it’s probably the strongest thing about the album. It’s clearly built around this idea of artificial, algorithm-driven music, and everything supports that. But once that idea is established, the album doesn’t really evolve beyond it.

It keeps hinting at bigger moments, like it’s about to open up into something more impactful, but it consistently pulls back. The structures feel intentionally limited, almost like it’s refusing to give any real release. That might be the point, but it still makes the experience feel restricted.

There are hooks and pop elements, but they don’t translate into anything lasting. They come and go without being developed, so nothing really sticks. It ends up feeling more like a controlled demonstration than an album that actually builds momentum.

I respect what it’s trying to do, but I don’t feel much reason to come back to it.

Pros

Strong conceptual framework → the AI/music industry critique is clear and consistently applied
High production density → layered, polished, and deliberately constructed sound design
Recognizable identity → unmistakably Laibach, even in a more pop-oriented format

Cons

Lack of real payoff → tension is set up but never properly released
Emotional detachment → ironic stance prevents any real sense of urgency or stakes
Hooks don’t convert → catchy ideas appear but are underdeveloped or intentionally cut short
