Taj Mahal - Time (2026)

It’s solid all the way through, but it never really goes beyond that. The groove is reliable, the performances are experienced, and everything sounds exactly like it should. There’s a level of craftsmanship here that’s hard to fault.

At the same time, it rarely feels like anything is at stake. The songs sit comfortably in their lanes, and even when they’re good, they don’t build into something more impactful. It feels more like maintaining a tradition than pushing it forward.

I respect how consistent it is, and it’s easy to stay with it while it plays. But once it’s over, there aren’t many moments that stay with me or pull me back in.

Pros

Strong groove consistency → the pocket is steady and well-executed across the album
Authentic vocal presence → Taj Mahal brings credibility and lived-in character to every track
Cohesive roots palette → blues, soul, and reggae elements blend naturally without friction

Cons

Lack of dynamic escalation → very few tracks build toward a real peak or payoff
Safe songwriting approach → relies heavily on familiar structures and ideas
Limited standout moments → not many tracks separate themselves as essential

Genre: Blues
Country: US
