Alix Perez - Sabotage (2026)


I can appreciate the level of craftsmanship on Sabotage, but I never become fully invested in it. Alix Perez delivers pristine production, with deep, weighty bass and meticulous sound design that immediately stands out. Every track feels professionally built, and the atmosphere remains consistently dark and immersive. At the same time, the album leans so heavily on mood that many ideas begin to blend together. Once the novelty of the sound design fades, I find myself wanting stronger compositions or more distinctive moments to separate one track from the next. It's an undeniably polished bass music release, but it leaves me admiring the engineering more than the music itself. I enjoy individual passages, yet I don't come away feeling compelled to revisit the album often.

Confident execution of the halftime/deep dubstep style.

Tracks can feel too similar over the course of the release.

I appreciate what this re-recording accomplishes because it finally gives these songs the sound they always deserved. The production is bigger, the performances are sharper, and the riffs hit with far more authority than they did on the original release. The youthful aggression is still there, but it's delivered with much greater precision. Where it loses me is in the writing itself. Most of the songs are built around the same formula of fast riffs, blast beats and breakdowns, and after a while they begin to blur together. The constant intensity creates excitement in the short term, but it also leaves very little room for tension, contrast or memorable climaxes. Instead of building toward defining moments, the album often feels like one long sustained assault. I also miss a stronger emotional dimension.
