Finsterforst - Still (2026)
Finsterforst’s Still is a massive, dark and surprisingly controlled folk-metal album. The band combines heavy riffs, black-metal aggression, doom-like pacing and accordion without ever falling too far into the usual drinking-song clichés. The result feels genuinely epic rather than simply oversized.
The long compositions demand patience, but most of them justify their length through strong atmosphere, gradual development and powerful climaxes. The slower passages give the music room to breathe, while the folk melodies add identity without weakening the darker mood. The production is dense, but it suits the album’s weight and scale.
A few sections still drag, and not every chorus is immediately memorable, but the consistency, musicianship and emotional force are difficult to deny. Still is ambitious, immersive and one of Finsterforst’s more convincing attempts to balance heaviness, atmosphere and folk instrumentation.
