King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Alien Metal (2026)


Alien Metal is one of King Gizzard’s more focused electronic experiments, but it still works better as a stylistic exercise than as a genuinely strong album. The modular synths, acid lines and trance rhythms give it a clear identity, and “Alien Metal” proves the band can make this approach feel genuinely forceful rather than merely playful.

The problem is that too many tracks rely on repetition without enough melodic or structural development. The production is dense and energetic, but the songwriting underneath it is often surprisingly thin, and the vocoder-heavy vocals rarely add much. There are enjoyable stretches throughout, yet very few moments that feel essential.

It is coherent, fun and technically convincing, but also derivative enough to expose how much more distinctive the band are when their electronic ideas are mixed with their usual rock instincts.

I appreciate what this re-recording accomplishes because it finally gives these songs the sound they always deserved. The production is bigger, the performances are sharper, and the riffs hit with far more authority than they did on the original release. The youthful aggression is still there, but it's delivered with much greater precision. Where it loses me is in the writing itself. Most of the songs are built around the same formula of fast riffs, blast beats and breakdowns, and after a while they begin to blur together. The constant intensity creates excitement in the short term, but it also leaves very little room for tension, contrast or memorable climaxes. Instead of building toward defining moments, the album often feels like one long sustained assault. I also miss a stronger emotional dimension.
