Steve Lacy - Oh yeah? (2026)
Steve Lacy still knows how to create warm, hazy songs with attractive guitar tones and smooth psychedelic production. Oh Yeah? sounds stylish and effortless on the surface, and a few melodies immediately stand out.
The problem is that too much of the album feels underwritten. Several tracks rely almost entirely on atmosphere, repeating a pleasant idea without developing it into a memorable song. The relaxed delivery can also sound detached, while the experiments often feel more decorative than genuinely adventurous.
The collaborations add some colour, but they do not solve the album’s lack of substance. Oh Yeah? is easy to enjoy while it is playing, yet surprisingly little remains once it ends. A polished and occasionally charming record, but also slight, inconsistent and well below Lacy’s best.
