The Coral - 388 (2026)

388 is pleasant, warm and beautifully produced, but also a bit too comfortable. The Coral’s move toward reggae, rocksteady and old-school soul works surprisingly well, and there are some really nice melodies here, but after a few tracks the formula becomes quite predictable.

Nothing is really bad, and the analogue production gives the album plenty of charm, but I kept waiting for something more memorable to happen. It feels more like a nice collection of songs than an album I’ll really want to return to.

Pros
Warm, charming production
Some very good melodies
Reggae/rocksteady influences work well

Cons
Too safe and predictable
Becomes repetitive
Very few standout moments
