GALNERYUS - A CRY FROM THE SKY ABOVE (2026)

I enjoy this album more than I admire it. Galneryus still delivers exactly what I expect: soaring vocals, dazzling guitar work, symphonic flourishes and a polished sense of grandeur. The musicianship is consistently impressive, and there are enough strong melodies to keep the record engaging from start to finish. At the same time, I rarely feel genuinely surprised. Many of the arrangements, chord progressions and song structures follow patterns the band has relied on for years, making the experience feel more comfortable than exciting. The longer tracks occasionally justify their ambition with satisfying climaxes, but they also expose how predictable the writing has become. I never find myself bored, yet I also don't come away feeling like I've heard one of the band's defining releases. It's a dependable and enjoyable power metal album that succeeds through execution more than inspiration, leaving me with several songs worth revisiting but not a lasting sense that the band has meaningfully evolved.

Pros

Features consistently excellent musicianship and guitar work.
Delivers strong melodic choruses and an epic atmosphere.
Maintains a polished and cohesive sound throughout.

Cons

Relies too heavily on familiar Galneryus formulas.
Few songs reach the emotional impact of the band's classic material.
The lengthy runtime slightly reduces the album's overall momentum.
