Cardinals - Masquerade (2026)


Masquerade has a strong atmosphere and a clear sense of identity, but the songs themselves are less impressive than the presentation around them. The accordion, ragged guitars and gothic Irish melancholy give Cardinals a distinctive surface, yet too much of the album relies on mood rather than genuinely memorable songwriting.

The second half is stronger, especially “Anhedonia”, “Barbed Wire” and “As I Breathe”, where the band sounds darker and more focused. Elsewhere, though, the influences are often too obvious, and several tracks feel like promising sketches rather than fully realised songs.

There is definitely talent here, but Masquerade feels more like a convincing first statement than a great debut.

Bring Me The Horizon - Count Your Blessings | Repented (2026)

I appreciate what this re-recording accomplishes because it finally gives these songs the sound they always deserved. The production is bigger, the performances are sharper, and the riffs hit with far more authority than they did on the original release. The youthful aggression is still there, but it's delivered with much greater precision. Where it loses me is in the writing itself. Most of the songs are built around the same formula of fast riffs, blast beats and breakdowns, and after a while they begin to blur together. The constant intensity creates excitement in the short term, but it also leaves very little room for tension, contrast or memorable climaxes. Instead of building toward defining moments, the album often feels like one long sustained assault. I also miss a stronger emotional dimension.
