John Carpenter - Cathedral (2026)

Cathedral has all the ingredients you expect from John Carpenter: dark synths, ominous melodies and a strong cinematic atmosphere. The heavier guitars are a nice addition and give the album more punch than some of his recent work.

But as an album on its own, it feels limited. Too many tracks sound like background music waiting for something to happen, and the melodies rarely stick once the record is over. The atmosphere is good, but atmosphere alone isn’t enough across a full album.

Enjoyable while it plays, especially if you already like Carpenter’s sound, but not essential.

Pros
Great sinister atmosphere
Heavier guitars add some energy
Classic Carpenter synth sound

Cons
Too much feels like background score
Few memorable tracks
Repetitive over a full album
