Lee "Scratch" Perry & Mouse on Mars - Spatial, No Problem. (2026)


Spatial, No Problem. is an intriguing collision of Lee Perry’s free-associative dub mythology and Mouse on Mars’ fractured electronic language, but the concept is stronger than the actual songs. The production is full of strange details, warped rhythms and unexpected textures, and Perry remains an endlessly charismatic presence.

Still, too much of the album feels like an exploratory studio session left largely intact. Tracks drift, repeat themselves and often rely on Perry’s personality to carry material that is structurally thin. The best moments are genuinely fun and peculiar, but the record rarely develops its ideas enough to become truly absorbing.

Interesting, inventive and historically meaningful, but musically inconsistent.

I appreciate what this re-recording accomplishes because it finally gives these songs the sound they always deserved. The production is bigger, the performances are sharper, and the riffs hit with far more authority than they did on the original release. The youthful aggression is still there, but it's delivered with much greater precision. Where it loses me is in the writing itself. Most of the songs are built around the same formula of fast riffs, blast beats and breakdowns, and after a while they begin to blur together. The constant intensity creates excitement in the short term, but it also leaves very little room for tension, contrast or memorable climaxes. Instead of building toward defining moments, the album often feels like one long sustained assault. I also miss a stronger emotional dimension.
