Rosa Walton - Tell Me It's A Dream (2026)


Tell Me It's A Dream is pleasant, polished and easy to like, but far less distinctive than its best moments initially suggest. Rosa Walton clearly knows how to write a hook, and tracks like “Sorry Anyway” and “Heart To Heartbreak” have enough melodic strength to stand out, but too much of the album settles into familiar indie-pop and synth-pop territory.

The production is bright and tasteful, yet often overly safe. Several songs feel underdeveloped, and once the strongest choruses are gone there is not enough depth, tension or personality to keep the whole record compelling. Walton’s vocals can also sound thin in the higher register, which occasionally weakens otherwise solid material.

A competent and charming solo debut, but one that relies too much on mood and good taste rather than truly memorable songwriting.

I appreciate what this re-recording accomplishes because it finally gives these songs the sound they always deserved. The production is bigger, the performances are sharper, and the riffs hit with far more authority than they did on the original release. The youthful aggression is still there, but it's delivered with much greater precision. Where it loses me is in the writing itself. Most of the songs are built around the same formula of fast riffs, blast beats and breakdowns, and after a while they begin to blur together. The constant intensity creates excitement in the short term, but it also leaves very little room for tension, contrast or memorable climaxes. Instead of building toward defining moments, the album often feels like one long sustained assault. I also miss a stronger emotional dimension.
