Solstice - Clann:The Stables Gathering (2026)

 


Solstice sound warm, colourful and technically excellent throughout, and the expanded line-up gives the material plenty of texture. The fiddle, brass and Theo Travis add real richness, while “Twin Peaks – Shout” and “Cheyenne” provide the strongest moments.

But as a full 90-minute live album, it is much less convincing. Too much of the music settles into comfortable, uplifting prog without enough tension, surprise or compositional bite. Several tracks are stretched beyond what their ideas can really sustain, and the sheer positivity of the performance eventually starts to feel one-dimensional.

Pleasant, accomplished and clearly enjoyable in the room, but on record it feels more like a document for committed Solstice fans than an essential live album.

I appreciate what this re-recording accomplishes because it finally gives these songs the sound they always deserved. The production is bigger, the performances are sharper, and the riffs hit with far more authority than they did on the original release. The youthful aggression is still there, but it's delivered with much greater precision. Where it loses me is in the writing itself. Most of the songs are built around the same formula of fast riffs, blast beats and breakdowns, and after a while they begin to blur together. The constant intensity creates excitement in the short term, but it also leaves very little room for tension, contrast or memorable climaxes. Instead of building toward defining moments, the album often feels like one long sustained assault. I also miss a stronger emotional dimension.
