The Durutti Column - Renascent (2026)
Renascent is a delicate and melancholic comeback built around Vini Reilly’s instantly recognisable guitar. The ambient textures, soft piano and restrained percussion create a warm atmosphere, and the album is at its best when it remains instrumental and lets the music breathe.
Unfortunately, it often becomes too passive. Several tracks drift by pleasantly without developing into anything especially memorable, while the spoken and sung vocals sometimes break the spell rather than deepen it. The record is elegant and sincere, but also overly safe and lacking in stronger emotional or melodic peaks.
There are still enough beautiful moments to make Renascent worth hearing, especially for longtime listeners. It is a respectable return rather than an essential one: atmospheric, graceful and occasionally moving, but too understated to leave a lasting impression.
