Accept - Teutonic Titans: 1976-2026 (2026)
I think Teutonic Titans: 1976-2026 is a good overview of Accept, but I enjoy it more as a career retrospective than as something I would regularly play from beginning to end.
The early material still carries most of the weight. There is a directness in the riffs, the melodies and the vocal attack that immediately explains why Accept became such an important band for traditional heavy metal.
The classic Udo Dirkschneider period is obviously the strongest part for me. The combination of sharp guitar riffs, gang vocals and very simple but effective hooks still works extremely well, even when the production clearly belongs to another era.
What I like is that the collection also shows how consistent the band's basic identity has remained. Even when the production becomes heavier and more modern, the core language is still immediately recognisable: strong riffs, melodic guitar leads, martial rhythms and choruses designed to be shouted back live.
The Mark Tornillo era is better represented than I expected. His voice is different enough from Udo's to give the newer material its own personality, and some of the modern songs have considerably more weight and aggression.
But the comparison with the classics is also unavoidable.
The later songs are often very well made, but I don't think the hooks or riffs are consistently as distinctive. I admire how well Accept maintain their formula, but I remember the historical highlights much more clearly than most of the newer material.
The other problem is simply the nature of a fifty-year compilation.
There are big changes in production, vocal style and heaviness, and although that makes sense historically, it doesn't always create the most coherent listening experience. Some transitions feel more like moving between different periods of the band's career than listening to one complete album.
So for me this works very well as a celebration of Accept and as an introduction to their different eras.
There are many genuinely strong songs here, the guitar work remains excellent and the band's identity is unmistakable.
But as a complete listening experience, I would probably return to the individual classic albums rather than replay the whole retrospective very often.
