Zebrahead - I.O. (2026)


I think I.O. is a decent Zebrahead album, but I don't think the hooks are consistent enough to make it more than that.

Burn Burn Burn works well as an opener. The heavier riff gives it some extra energy, and the song is short enough to make its point quickly.

Smoke Signals from My Couch is probably one of the best tracks for me because the ska influence and horn section give the album some much-needed variation. Sink Like a Stone is another highlight because the melody stays with me more clearly than most of the other songs.

I also like A Perfect Life Is Such a Bore, but that track illustrates part of my problem with the album: Zebrahead are still relying very heavily on the same combination of rap verses, fast guitars and melodic choruses they have used for years.

The formula is efficient, but several tracks blur together.

I Have Mixed Drinks About Feelings, Pulling Teeth and Big Deal all have energy, but I don't think the choruses are strong enough to make me want to return to them individually.

The short running time definitely helps. Once I ignore the repeated version of A Perfect Life Is Such a Bore, there is very little room for the album to become exhausting.

But being compact is not the same as being memorable.

So for me this is a solid pop-punk record with a few good tracks and plenty of energy, but I remember the Zebrahead formula more clearly than most of the individual songs.

  • Strong energy and compact pacing
  • Ska and heavier elements add useful variety

  • Too many songs rely on the same familiar Zebrahead formula
  • Hooks are less memorable than the energy suggests
  • Repeating A Perfect Life Is Such a Bore feels unnecessary

Bring Me The Horizon - Count Your Blessings | Repented (2026)

I appreciate what this re-recording accomplishes because it finally gives these songs the sound they always deserved. The production is bigger, the performances are sharper, and the riffs hit with far more authority than they did on the original release. The youthful aggression is still there, but it's delivered with much greater precision. Where it loses me is in the writing itself. Most of the songs are built around the same formula of fast riffs, blast beats and breakdowns, and after a while they begin to blur together. The constant intensity creates excitement in the short term, but it also leaves very little room for tension, contrast or memorable climaxes. Instead of building toward defining moments, the album often feels like one long sustained assault. I also miss a stronger emotional dimension.
