The Black Keys - Peaches! (2026)
I enjoy this more than I expected at first. The rawness helps a lot — it actually feels like they’re playing again instead of polishing everything to death. There’s a directness here that works, especially compared to their more recent stuff.
But structurally, it still doesn’t hold up.
The grooves are solid, and they lock in quickly, but they don’t evolve. Most tracks just sit in the same pocket without pushing toward anything bigger. It ends up feeling consistent rather than compelling.
The covers aspect makes it harder to fully invest. Even when it sounds good, it doesn’t feel like it builds a real identity across the album — more like a collection of performances than a statement.
I can stay with it while it’s on, but there’s no real moment that elevates it. It’s decent, but it never crosses into something memorable.
Pros
Raw, immediate energy → the live recording approach gives the album a tangible, physical feelSolid groove consistency → the blues repetition is steady and locks in easily
Cohesive roots aesthetic → clear throwback direction, no confusion in identity
Cons
Very limited escalation → most tracks stay at the same intensity with little buildup or payoff
Covers reduce impact → lack of original authorship weakens identity and memorability
Monotony over the runtime → groove becomes predictable without enough variation
