Violet Grohl - Be Sweet To Me (2026)

There is obvious talent here, especially in Violet Grohl’s voice, but Be Sweet To Me is still far too dependent on its influences. The Breeders, PJ Harvey, Veruca Salt, shoegaze and ’90s alternative rock are everywhere, often to the point where the references are more memorable than the songs themselves.

The production is strong and the album is short enough not to overstay its welcome, while tracks like “THUM” and “595” show genuine promise. But too much of the record feels carefully styled rather than genuinely distinctive, and the songwriting rarely has the weight needed to justify the attention around it.

A competent and occasionally exciting debut, but not yet the work of an artist with a fully formed identity.

Pros
Strong voice
Good production
A few genuinely promising tracks

Cons
Far too derivative
Uneven songwriting
More style than substance
